This past winter while completing a residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, I began work on a project titled Telephono.
Telephono is an audio experiment that allows musicians to communicate with one another by manipulating audio files. Inspired by the classic children’s game “Telephone,” my interpretation involves sending a unique audio file to a musician via the internet. That musician then chooses whether to edit the piece or simply pass it on to the next person in the chain.
Telephono is about the process, not the product. That being said, the product (the boxset) here is a tribute to the process.
As we plunge deeper into a digital sea of media and content, the need to archive art and music is even more of a paramount concern.
Telephono is a musical experiment that exemplifies the pure beauty of creation. Communicating through music, across seas and mountains, in an effort to understand each other better. Or simply, Telephono allows the musician to disconnect with his or her own musical routines and commitments. Telephono sparks new musical relationships to arise, whether with friends or total strangers. Telephono allows each musician the chance to share ideas with each other that they may not have ever channeled before.
It’s my humble opinion that such a tribute should be forever etched into vinyl; a format still cherished by so many music lovers and collectors.
Thus, a five record vinyl boxset is now available for sale.
Thanks to every musician for taking part in Telephono.

…long story short, the older we get the less we share. Gotta cut that out! ![]()
